I read this really good piece about the curse of Self Entitlement and Jean hit this piece dead on point. The article talks about a new generation of the workforce who feel entitled to start at the top, and feel it necessary to receive all the fringe benefits of power, pay and recognition. Although it’s a pretty jacked up outlook, it definitely speaks the truth on a trending topic which has been discussed more and more during recent interviews we’ve had. Many of these entrepreneurs have discussed in detail the dreaded incidents they’ve had when it came to hiring and sadly enough – it’s a reality. But especially after today’s announcement that unemployment rates are on the rise, it’s safe to say that jobs nowadays should be treated as a gift rather than a given. The bottom line….get out there and put in the work and put in the time necessary to succeed, because the world might be yours but it owes you nothing.
Here’s a few pull quotes that stood out…..
“For those still expecting a trophy just for participating, the road will be longer, rougher, and filled with the potholes created by an upbringing of unrealistic expectations. The silver lining of this recession is that they will learn this lesson sooner rather than later. And, hopefully, we can raise the next generation to avoid the curse of entitlement.”
