Dropout Money.

It’s about 11pm on Sunday and I just woke up from nap number eight and still feel like shit so my advice would be to go and get a flu shot if you haven’t already gotten stuck. Seriously…the strain of flu that’s going around this year is angry as fuck and had me in bed most of yesterday and today.

Phase 1 of the revamp.

This past Friday I went by Top Stitch to check on my interior and let’s just say that these guys don’t play. They got the center console, door panels and headliner all done within a few days and by the end of next week they should be done with the full interior. Check back for more pics. (more…)

Woke up at the butt crack of dawn on Saturday to shoot on over to Cars & Coffee and the event was good but not great – like the old school days of Crystal Cove in Newport. Regardless, there was a good turnout of cars and it was good to run into some old faces like Air Gary. Interestingly enough, we also happened to see the third black Versace Edition Lamborghini Murcielago! Most of you already know that there are a total of 20 Versace Edition Lamborghini Murcielago’s and of the 20 there are only THREE black ones.

My boy P owns one of them, another guy over in Calabasas owns another and the third one showed up  at Cars & Coffee rockin’ Texas plates.

The Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing is a piece of automotive history and you can thank Max Hoffman (Daimler-Benz’s officiatl importer in the U.S.) for making it all happen. Back in the day, it was Max who convinced  DBAG management in Stuttgart that a street version of the 300SL would be a commercial success. His prediction proved to be correct as they Daimler Benz would go on to sell more than 80% of the vehicle’s total production -  approximately 1400 units were sold in the US. (more…)

In between working on customer cars and project bikes, Alan is also juggling the filming of another season of Chopper Challenge for CMT. Last year we featured his impressive “glass” gas tank bike that he built for Monster Energy Drink and this year he’s got some plans to built something even more insane.

This was definitely a trip. I saw this BMW parked over at the Santa Anita Mall on Sunday and as we rolled by I spotted a huge HH sticker posted up on this rear windshield as well as a small one up on the front. Definitely a good thing.

It’s amazing how many cars you’ll run into throughout the course of the day and it just goes to show you that people are still pounding the pavement and stackin’ those chips.

Check the front plates.

If you’re keeping watch on the market – as well as what the “reaper” has to say – then here’s the latest score. More than 525 US magazines ceased publication in 2008, and 40 have already folded in 2009 as the downturn in the economy continues to heavily impact most forms of print media, according to Mediafinder.

The regional magazines category suffered the largest decline in 2008, losing 33 titles. The travel category lost 18 titles. The next largest category losers were home and automotive, both losing 17 publications each in 2008.

Looking back to 2007, 591 magazines ceased publication. As in 2008, the regional category had the most casualties, with 37 ceased publications. Crossword puzzle and college student press had 22 and 20 now-defunct magazines, respectively.
