Woke up at the butt crack of dawn on Saturday to shoot on over to Cars & Coffee and the event was good but not great – like the old school days of Crystal Cove in Newport. Regardless, there was a good turnout of cars and it was good to run into some old faces like Air Gary. Interestingly enough, we also happened to see the third black Versace Edition Lamborghini Murcielago! Most of you already know that there are a total of 20 Versace Edition Lamborghini Murcielago’s and of the 20 there are only THREE black ones.
My boy P owns one of them, another guy over in Calabasas owns another and the third one showed up at Cars & Coffee rockin’ Texas plates.
The Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing is a piece of automotive history and you can thank Max Hoffman (Daimler-Benz’s officiatl importer in the U.S.) for making it all happen. Back in the day, it was Max who convinced DBAG management in Stuttgart that a street version of the 300SL would be a commercial success. His prediction proved to be correct as they Daimler Benz would go on to sell more than 80% of the vehicle’s total production - approximately 1400 units were sold in the US.
