If you haven’t been to Spitz (Yeah I know…it sounds gross) then be sure to check it out. They’re Zagat rated (named in the Top 5 for Value in L.A.), have the bomb ass Doner Kabab and when it comes to sides be sure to order the sweet potato fries and the fried pita strips and hummus. They just opened one up on Little Tokyo and you can click here for more info.

post RUDY RIVAS: LIVIN’ THE LOW LIFE.

January 27th, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 11:15 pm

Rudy Rivas – the associate publisher of LR and HH – doesn’t like cameras and even more so the video camera. So today when the video crew from Living the Low Life came to interview him he was stressed as all hell so what better thing to do than to take pictures of him during the interview. Ha ha ha.

post NEW TOY: MINO FLIP

January 26th, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 11:34 pm

Just got this over the weekend (thanks Michelle!) and it’s pretty dope. It’s a 2GB mini recorder that holds an hour of footage. It’s called the Mino Flip and it’s not only convenient but also pretty damn clear considering the price point and size. Just another toy to add to the collection.

post LOS ANGELES HAIL.

January 26th, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 1:39 am

The weather here has been retarded and I took this picture about 15 minutes after it started dumping hail and all I have to say is that I’m glad that my car isn’t parked outside. What I do want to see though is my neighbors Porsche Cayenne – which was outside – because right about now I’m sure it looks like a dimpled golf ball.

post MORE PHOTOS: 2008 GRAND NATIONAL ROADSTER SHOW

January 24th, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 7:19 pm

The halls of the Grand National Roadster Show may not be filled with rows of exotics but please believe that there’s plenty of “Lambo” and “Ferrari” money all over this place.

There’s also no shortage of power.

Back in the glory days of sling shot dragsters all you needed to race was a pair of balls – that you were willing to lose or get bruised. Can you imagine having to drive this while straddling the transmission- fuck that. Back in 1970, racing legend Don Garilitis went through a transmission explosion that resulted in him losing half his right foot and there were hundreds that had gotten burned as a result of oil and fuel fires that blew back from the motor.

post PICS: 2008 GRAND NATIONAL ROADSTER SHOW IN POMONA

January 24th, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 9:26 am

The 2008 Grand National Roadster Show is back at the Pomona Fairplex and if you’re heading down there then be sure to bring some extra pocket change. For starters, the site says that admission is $16 but once you get there they charge $20. No big thing but a bit annoying though.

Now in it’s 58th year, this show is the longest running indoor car show around and if you’re a fan of classic muscle, lowriders, vintage rares, choppers, rat rods and lead sleds then this is it. They’ve got something for everyone and included in that line up of cars is special section from the Petersen Museum as well as old school dragsters and more. It’s a fun show and if you’ve never been out to it then be sure to check it out.

THUNDERFLITE: Designed by Dean Arnold, the Thunder Flite as a retro-futuristic concept vehicle envisioning what Ford might’ve concocted had they designed a space age T-Bird back in the late 50’s. Looks like a great concept but it’s also one that’s at the center of a lot of controversy…but it’s the car industry so I guess it’s normal? LOL.

post MISTER CARTOON ICE CREAM TRUCK

January 24th, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 8:16 am

Mister Cartoon’s ice cream truck was up on display and the best part about it being there were the looks of amazement as well as some of the comments you’d hear. The best one I heard while snapping some flicks came from an old ass white boy that told his friend of equal hurst-bait age, “I’d like to eat the cones of those titties Henry.” LMFAO.

post MAKEOVERS.

January 22nd, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 2:23 am

It’s the beginning of a new year so many are revamping their rides for a fresh new look. From color-changed RR Phantoms to full on Lamborghini make overs, there’s a lot going on and you’ll see it all soon in Heavy Hitters. The latest person to get the bug to revamp his car is Kennedy from Platinum VIP, he’s changing up his first-generation Lexus GS and retrofitting the Job Design kit he once had on his Lexus LS460 – a car that’s long gone…..and a whole other story best told over drinks.

Since the Job Design kit was sitting around he decided to mod it up so here’s a few pics from the initial stages.

Along with the installation of the kit he’s also doing a mild widebody flare to better accommodate some wider wheels. More pics to come soon.

He also started customizing his RV. Check out the UFO puddle lights on the RV. LOL….13 on each side and four in the rear.

COMING SOON: Here’s the first completed Premier 4509 widebody kit for the Bentley. This project used a  Bentley GT Speed as the base platform and you’ll see more in an upcoming issue.

Here’s a teaser shot from a shoot that was just completed in Barcelona. More to come soon……

post GOTTA HAVE IT: THE AUDEMARS PIGUET SURVIVOR

January 21st, 2009

Filed under: Heavy Hitters Magazine — John Jarasa @ 9:45 pm

If you’re into bling-bling watches flooded with diamonds that look like salt rocks and some bullshit movement then you probably won’t appreciate the Royal Oak Offshore Survivor Chronograph. With over 365 parts, this limited production piece (supposedly only 1,000 were made) is water resistant up to 100 meters, has a 22-karat-golf rotor and the looks to kill. The watch has Audemars Piguet calibre 3126/3840 and if you want more information check their  website – which is as equally impressive.
