Over the weekend we shot down to all three of Patrick Painter's galleries (2 at the Bergamot Station and as well as one Melrose). While all three showings were good my two personal favorites were Jim Shaw's as welll as Peter Saul's so here's a few flicks from the event – there's more to come but I'm waiting to get back my other computer – which took a shit. The most significant thing about the openings was the fact that three major artists all had their openings on the same night. In light of the economic turmoil, P and SooJin doing it big and bold and the artist and homie John Newsom put it best when he left this comment about a recent post on P.

"Here’s a recent quote from one of America’s greatest voices in Contemporary Art, the writer and critic Dave Hickey, from last November’s issue of The Art Newspaper with regards to the then speculative economic outlook: “One day one dealer may say to himself: ‘I’m going to gather power the way Leo did, I’m just going to show stuff I really believe in.’ That’s going to really change things. And the art world as we currently know it will disappear.” -D.H. Now, I’ve had that quote pinned up on my wall for a year now knowing all along that the dealer that Mr.Hickey must be referring to is Patrick. Much Love & Respect, News

Check out this sculpture. Want one? It'll cost you a cool quarter - quarter of a million that is.

One of my favorites from Jim. How he does this with a pencil is beyond me…I'm still trying to master stick figures. LOL.
